How do you keep your relationship from dying?
With the recent developments in my personal life, I have, once again, appreciated how lucky I am to have such an amazing woman by my side. Is she the same person I married ten years ago? Of course not. Neither am I. Like everything else in life, our relationship changed, with ups and downs as everyone has. And yet, I like to think that we’ve never been happier than now.
When change is the only constant, how do you keep your relationship from crumbling away?
☀️ One new habit to practice
This may be the most powerful relationship exercise I know. It’s a basic feedback format, and what we’ve learned from each other during these sessions is priceless. Every other week we sit down and start the conversion with:
- What I think I’ve been doing well in the past two weeks is…
- What I think I could do better going forward is…
- What I admire you for doing well in the past two weeks is…
- What I’d like to see more from you is…
Only one rule. When the other talks, you must shut up and listen to listen, not to reply.
In fact, “Just listen to the other person for 3 minutes” is another habit we’ve been practicing. You can learn so much in 3 minutes when you attentively listen.
This practice has been helping us immensely to tackle problems before they become problems. We used to do this every Sunday, but we noticed that two weeks is a more reasonable period.

When we’re afraid of showing who we are, we hide behind false feelings and emotions, which become the source of our frustration, sadness, and despair. By being vulnerable, we put ourselves out there and show the courage to change our and everyone else’s lives around us.
p.s: I’m so grateful to have found out about Brené Brown with this book. I love her style of delivering deep thoughts and advice through very relatable storytelling. The audio from the seminars makes you feel like you’re in the…
